What are the characteristics of thermoplastic elastomer extrusion granulation process?
Thermoplastic elastomer extrusion granulation process is known for its flexibility and excellent product performance
Thermoplastic elastomer extrusion granulation is known for its flexibility and excellent product performance. The equipment mainly consists of an extruder, a granulator, and a drying system, with the extruder being the core equipment. Twin-screw extruders are often used, similar in principle to twin-screw granulators in antioxidant granulation, where two intermeshing screws provide powerful conveying, mixing, and plasticizing capabilities.
In terms of the processing flow, thermoplastic elastomer raw materials are first added to the hopper and moved towards the die head by the screw. During this process, the raw materials gradually melt and plasticize through the heating device on the outside of the barrel and the shear frictional heat generated by the screw rotation. Then, under pressure, the molten material is extruded through a die head with a specific shape to form a strip-shaped material. Next, the granulator cuts the strip-shaped material into granules according to the set length. Finally, the drying system removes the surface moisture from the granules to obtain the finished product.
This process has many significant advantages. First, it has good mixing effects, enabling the thorough mixing of various components such as rubber phase, resin phase, and additives, resulting in stable and excellent performance of the thermoplastic elastomer. Second, it has high production efficiency; the continuous production mode enables large-scale production to meet the growing market demand for thermoplastic elastomers. Third, it is highly flexible; by changing different dies and adjusting process parameters, granules of different shapes and sizes can be produced to meet the processing needs of different downstream products. Fourth, the product quality is stable; precise control of temperature, pressure, and screw speed ensures the consistency of granule size accuracy, appearance quality, and intrinsic properties. Fifth, it has a wide range of applications; it can process various types of thermoplastic elastomers, such as styrene, polyolefin, and polyester types, and is widely used in various industries such as automobiles, electronics, and daily necessities.
